The short version: we keep the event, not the message.
What we store
The event itself — what it is, when, where, who's hosting, and a link back to where it was announced. That's the part that's useful to someone looking for something to do.
What we don't keep
The original message. When someone posts an event in a public group, we read it to pull out the details — then the message is deleted once the event has been reviewed, and in every case within 30 days. That deadline is written into the code, not a setting someone can turn up.
The one thing we do keep
If an organizer posted a flyer or poster and we published the event, we keep that image, because it IS the event's picture on the site. It's the thing the organizer made to be seen. If we didn't publish the event, the image is deleted along with the message.
Your data
We never sell or share your personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
Signing in
Optional — with Google, or with an email address and a password — and used only to let you submit events and save the ones you like. If you never sign in, the site works.
Counting visits
We count visits ourselves. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker anywhere on this site, and nothing about you is sent to another company. To tell a returning visitor from a new one we set one cookie of our own, mtmv_vid, which lasts about 13 months. It records which pages and events were opened and which outbound links were followed — only the site a link points to, never the full address, and never anything you type into a search box. The detailed records are deleted after 180 days; after that only anonymous daily counts remain.
If you are signed in
Once you sign in on a browser, that visit cookie is linked to your account and stays linked — including after you sign out, because it is the same browser. So an administrator can look up the pages one named person opened. We think you should know that rather than have to guess it. Deleting your account breaks the link: the traffic history survives as anonymous counts, with your name removed from it.
Location
If you tap “near me”, your browser asks your permission and the answer is used on your device to work out which towns are close. Your coordinates are never sent to us. The weather panel is the one exception: so it can remember where you want the forecast for, we store a deliberately blurred location, rounded to roughly an 11 km square. That names a valley, not a house.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, from the menu under your avatar — no email, no form, no asking us. Be plain about what happens: your profile, saved events and sign-in methods go, and your name and email are scrambled rather than erased from the records we have to keep, so moderation and audit history survive with nothing in them that points to you. Events you submitted stay on the site. They belong to the people who organized them, and they are credited to a deleted account.
